Gather wood, build a fire, survive the night.


A little fire started as my VR testbed for user interaction. Initially I made a prototype to generate some interest and seek talent at schools for my now failed VR start-up, but over the years I have revisited some of the game mechanics and started putting together a way of telling short stories in the game. 

At the start of the lockdown I decided to rebuild the game from scratch with some newly acquired humble bundle assets. This allowed me to distill the gameplay and focus some on the progression your stationary play space through time and a story.

Roquelike aspects were implemented around the fire. 

Weapons were simplified and  I realized the importance of the shield and started building the gameplay around it.

I then overpowered and fixed the Axe. Chopping wood was a difficult thing to figure out in my initial prototypes years back, but was a breeze to figure out after years of other prototypes.

Bow and Arrow mechanics were next. 

Then I worked out an inventory and upgrade system, holsters and a way to collect drops from a distance were next. Which then resulted in developing some basic Magic Skills. (Heavily undocumented - Try find them.)

Basic AI for ranged and thief enemy types were then implemented, unfortunately It is still rather rudimentary. Basic Boss was next.

Difficulty modes Story and Valhalla were then added to balance gameplay for me as I was getting too good a the game. 


Currently a little fire is meant to be played in a medium-large VR play space, initial experiments auto placed your campsite based on the size of your VR play-space  - this and some customization will return in future versions if the project gathers any steam.


There is no tutorial, but there are a couple of info scrolls lying around with some basic gameplay info. 

But basically:

Gather wood, build a fire, survive the night. 

In Story Mode if your fire dies you die and have to start again. Throw your shield in the fire to keep it alive if you are lazy.

In Valhalla Mode your shield is now your health. If your fire dies your die and have to start again. If your shield breaks you die and have to start again. Throw your shield in the fire to heal your shield.


I would love to work on this game fulltime so I am gauging interest and looking for feedback/collaborators or testers.
